Prayer is the breath of the Christian life and the engine room of the church. At Good News Church, we believe that we demonstrate our dependence on God most clearly when we pray together. Our prayer meetings are dedicated times where we set aside our busy schedules to seek the Lord’s face, intercede for others, and align our hearts with His will.
We are convinced that God hears and answers the prayers of His people. As Charles Spurgeon once said, “True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that - it is spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth.”
What to Expect
Our prayer meetings are simple and focused. We often begin with a brief devotional or reading from Scripture to orient our minds towards God’s character and promises. Then, we spend the majority of our time in prayer.
We pray for a wide range of needs:
- The Church: We pray for the spiritual health of our members, for our leaders, and for the various ministries of the church.
- The Sick and Suffering: We lift up those who are ill, grieving, or facing trials, asking for God’s comfort and healing.
- Evangelism and Missions: We ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers.
- National and Global Issues: We pray for those in authority and for peace and justice in our world.
A Call to Corporate Prayer
While personal prayer is essential, there is a unique power and blessing in corporate prayer. When we pray together, we are united in one Spirit, and our faith is strengthened by hearing the prayers of others. It is a time when the body of Christ functions together, bearing one another’s burdens before the Throne of Grace.
